St. Colmcilles G.A.C. – 2017 Cúl Camp – Day 1

St. Colmcilles G.A.C. – 2017 Cúl Camp

The St. Colmcilles Cúl Camp is underway. Day 1 of the Cúl Camp was a fantastic success and it was great to see everyone enjoying themselves, learning new skills, having fun and making new friends.

The weather was fantastic yesterday so lets hope that it continues to be today. There were plenty of coaches from both the men’s and the ladies’ senior teams down helping out and they helped all the kids to enjoy playing football and ensured that they had a great time.

It’s not too late to come down and join in. The Cúl Camp continues today from 10am to 3pm before it concludes tomorrow afternoon.

The dates have been set for this year’s St. Colmcilles Cúl Camps. This is a great opportunity for young kids to experience Gaelic Games, whether they are regular players or are taking part for the first time. It is a great chance to meet new people while taking part in three days of action packed activities with qualified coaches and learning or improving new skills.

All, following the recent events some of you may have been deeply affected by the sad news. We urge you to talk to fellow club members, family or friends.

St Colmcilles would like to offer our support to all our players, members, supporters, friends and the wider St Albans and GAA communities affected by this tragedy. Please use the contact information on the facebook page or our website, if you wish to talk to someone.

Tragic Loss Of Our Friend & Teammate

It is with a heavy heart that we have to report the sad news of the passing of a member of the St. Colmcilles family, a player, our teammate, our friend, Joe Deacy.

At 21 years of age, Joe had a bright future ahead of him. He had an amazing energy and a real lust for life. He was a great friend and people were drawn to his character, his humour and outlook on life.

Joe loved playing Gaelic Football and being a part of the senior team here at St. Colmcilles. He had fantastic ability, great pace and was always a threat in front of goal. He has been a key member of the squad in recent years and has been very important to the success that the team has achieved recently.

It is difficult to say goodbye to anyone at any age but when it happens to someone so young it is especially difficult. He will be sorely missed by us all.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Joe’s family and friends at this time.

You will always be remembered by all of us here at the club, your friends and teammates.

Rest in peace Joe.

2017 Annual Golf Day Report

Last Saturday 17th June marked the St. Colmcilles’ Annual Golf Day. The day proved to be fantastically successful, a great day was had by all and we managed to raise funds for the running of the club throughout the year.

First of all we’d like to say a massive thank you to our sponsors who make this day and the running of our club possible. Above are our Day and Hole sponsors who gave generously to ensure that the club has funds to continue functioning and growing. A special mention to our Day Sponsors, Claddagh Developments and ECS Group for their sponsorship. It has been possible in the last few years to grow the club and the increase numbers playing gaelic football in St Albans and that has been due to the generosity and help from these sponsors so, thank you very much. This year we managed to raise over £3,000 which will be put to great use over the coming year.

The golf took place at Redbourn Golf Club. 22 players went out and played in the glorious weather on Saturday afternoon in the brilliant Hertfordshire countryside. There were a number of prizes up for grabs on the day and they were awarded as follows:

Nearest the Pin: Rod Lavery

Longest Drive: Conor Luttrell

Junior Winner: Alex Sharkey

Team Winner: Pat Walsh, Tommy McAndrew, Sean Carney & Andy Plunkett

Individual Winner: Aiden Clifford

Well done to all who played!

Individual Winner Aiden Clifford being presented by his dad, Club Chairman, Andy Clifford

After the golf, it was then back to the St Albans Irish Club – Official where there was a BBQ in full swing and the drinks were flowing. A big thank you to all who volunteered on the day, especially the footballers from the ladies team who helped with the BBQ back at the club.

As an extra bit of entertainment there was a fine footballing display as the St. Colmcilles Over 40’s took on the London Masters team. A good few former Saints dusted off their gear and togged out in Cotlandswick to relive their glory days alongside some of our current senior team. The match was very close all the way through, with London leading for most of the match by the narrowest of margins however, it was the St Albans side who finished the stronger and ran out winners by a couple of goals.
